Before you start the beta

Thank you for trying Ashley before almost anyone else. This page says plainly what you're agreeing to. The full privacy policy covers the rest.

1. What Ashley does with what she hears

While listening is on, your iPhone or Apple Watch sends audio to our server. The server turns it into text with a speech-to-text provider and writes short cards from that text with an AI model. Everything is stored encrypted, under a key made for your account. When you ask Ashley a question, or fill in your focus list, the same AI model reads the cards and text that job needs, and nothing more. The data sharing page lists exactly what goes where.

2. The people around you will be heard too

Before Ashley starts listening, tell the people you're with that you're trying an app that listens and sums up your day, and check they're happy with it. Something simple works: "I'm trying an AI app that helps me keep track of our conversations. Is it okay if I turn it on?" If anyone says no, leave it off. You can also send them our page for the people around you.

3. This is a beta

Ashley will sometimes miss audio, use more battery than it should, or get a card wrong, including who said what. Don't rely on it for anything legal, medical, financial or safety-related. We work hard not to lose data, but in a beta it can happen.

4. It's free, with no listening limit

During the beta you don't pay, and there's no cap on listening hours. We'll tell you before paid plans start. As a thank-you, beta testers get 3 months of the Unlimited plan free once paid plans begin. You're never charged unless you choose to subscribe.

5. You can leave at any time

Delete your account in the app's account settings. Your account is locked and your data is erased straight away. Copies in our encrypted backups are cleared as those backups are replaced within 14 days, and are never restored. You can also email [email protected].

6. When the beta ends

Your data stays and carries over to the public version of Ashley, unless you delete your account. If we ever need to reset beta data, we'll tell you first.

7. TestFlight

Ashley reaches you through Apple's TestFlight. Apple shares with us the name and email you were invited with, crash reports, and anything you send through TestFlight's own feedback. We use these only to run the beta.

8. Tell us what's wrong, or what you'd change

Use Report a problem in the app. It makes a file that you send yourself, to whoever you choose. A report never includes audio, and includes your latest transcript only if you check the box. Blunt complaints help us most.

9. Who can join

You need to be 16 or older. You're welcome to share the test link with your friends.

Before Ashley starts, the app asks you to agree, in so many words, to this page, the privacy policy and the terms of service.
